He is an experienced ex-Shell exploration geologist with broad background in regional geology, structural geology, depositional systems and prospect evaluation. He is a good coach/mentor and a respected advisor for exploration matters.
He filled a variety of international functions in Shell until 2010. Last positions, from 2002 onwards, senior exploration advisor, and from 2007 to 2010 Manager Exploration Excellence: leading an expert group of very experienced and acknowledged experts in exploration directly advising Shell’s global exploration management. In addition, from 2005 onwards as Shell’s global Principle Technical Expert for Risk & Volume assessment of exploration prospects responsible for consistent and correct Risk & Volume assessment throughout the Shell organisation.
After his career in the oil industry and the universities of Utrecht and the VU University of Amsterdam (both in the Netherlands) he is now providing geological consultancy to oil industries and delivering courses on exploration geological topics: Risk & Volume assessment, Play-based Exploration, Trap and Seal analysis, Prospect Maturation, Seismic-stratigraphy, Geology for non-geologists, Geological Interpretation of seismic data. His courses receive consistently very positive evaluations with many repeat invitations.
Through assignments of several years each to locations on six continents and working in a “global” technical role in-depth and hands-on knowledge and understanding of many basins, geological settings, hydrocarbon plays, fields and prospects.
